Take out from Bodega has saved many a Round Top hostess. But you might not have a darling farm with a huge rustic table at which to welcome guests. No worries. They’re happy to have you over to their place on the square in downtown La Grange.
And don’t fret if you’re not a wine goer. Certainly you can go Frostie.
Crocheted cigarettes, live bunnies in gilded cages, ladies with antlers and all those kinds of surprises
The Library and Gallery are right along the road. Turn at Clutter & Excess, go about 300 yards and they’ll be on your left behind the gates. See if you can tell where I got my little white Scion stuck in the ditch before the gates were built!
Cross your fingers and hope to be invited to one of N°3’s casual private receptions for new favorite artists.
Amy King’s hugemongous warehouse of Euro imports is open all year and it’s where I go when I’m wishing it were Round Top Show Weeks but it’s only lonely July.
During the show, OWA takes a “field trip” and sets up a big booth packed with furniture and basics like bottles & baskets. Put it on your list for sure and see what kind of deals they’ll give you!
It’s great fun to walk through a jolly barnful of noisy chickens and then bring home a colorful dozen of their fresh eggs. Especially if you’re going through a serious Toad-in-a-Hole phase. (questions? click here: recipe)
And it figures I’d meet this one on Valentine’s weekend… what a sweetheart of a face, literally.
Yes, they’re TV stars, but around here the Gypsies sisters are famous for their totally over the top JuNK-O-RaMA Prom. Their bedazzling new store in Round Top sings with twangy affection for everything bright and beauteous. It is radiant!
The good news? You've discovered The Crush List. The not so good? I haven't been actively posting here for a few years now, which means the never terribly reliable details about my crushes are even more unreliable. Antique vendors have switched venues, shops in town have moved or passed on, donkeys may or may not be in the same front yards... In spite of the risks of massive misdirection I've left the site up in hopes that it still achieves its goal - to inspire you to visit Round Top for the Antiques Show or any time you have the time.
With that said, I leave you to explore this random list of my very favorite things about my very favorite place. I’ve tried to capture the area’s special pieces and parts. Some are big deal, some are small gestures, some are legendary and some are just tiny pip and squeak.
Love The Crush List? Please Subscribe! You’ll get a weekly email with an extra image and a link to the new posts. Nice!
